Role: Marketing and Communications Assistant

Reports to: Marketing Manager

Contract Dates: May 8, 2023 to September 1, 2023. 31 hr/week.

Start Date: May 8, 2023. 60-day probationary period.

Pay: $23.50 CAD/hr, paid biweekly.

Location: Hybrid. Online and in-person, mostly in the GTA.

Due to funding requirements, this position requires that the applicant be a student registered and attending full or part time post secondary education.

About the Position

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, the Marketing and Communications Assistant will support and enhance the Ontario Culture Days digital content strategy and achieve social media goals related to Ontario Culture Days programs.

The Marketing and Communications Assistant will also play an integral role in increasing the impact of the 2023 Ontario Culture Days Festival campaign by supporting artists, arts and culture groups, and organizations hosting Ontario Culture Days activities and celebrations at the community level.

Key Tasks

  • Follow and support marketing and content plans, critical paths, calendars, and measurement across multiple platforms and campaigns.
  • Alongside other colleagues, create, edit and implement content for our digital channels including website, e-newsletters, and social media.
  • Alongside other colleagues, build, test, and optimize CMS webpages, proactively updating pages as required.
  • Assist with coordination, production, implementation and distribution of print and digital marketing materials, including signage, promotional graphics and advertising.
  • Maintain a relationship with festival organizers throughout Ontario, providing direction, resources, and troubleshooting for the upcoming Ontario Culture Days Festival.
  • Identify and resolve issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborate with all Ontario Culture Days staff in a positive and proactive manner.
  • General Administration as required.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years post secondary education in a related field of study (completed or in-progress), or commensurate experience.
  • Writing and editing experience, writing samples will be required.
  • Experience managing and measuring social media.
  • Experience working in a similar role, related to the arts, culture and heritage sector; tourism experience is an asset
  • Experience in marketing, social platforms, e-newsletter campaigns, audience / community outreach, and general communications
  • A solid understanding of effective grassroots and digital marketing techniques
  • A solid understanding of Wordpress, MailChimp, Buffer and Google Ads
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is an asset
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills with a capacity for self-direction, the ability to take initiative and manage a diverse set of responsibilities.
