Role: Communications Assistant

Contract: 6-month contract. Full time until September 2, 2022, average of 35 hours/week. Part time from September 3 to December 2022, average of 20 hours a week.

Start Date: July 2022. 60-day probationary period.

Pay: $21 CAD/hr, paid biweekly.

Location: Hybrid. Online and in-person, mostly in the GTA.

About the role

Reporting to the Marketing Manager, this role is responsible for enhancing and implementing the Ontario Culture Days digital content strategy and achieving social media goals related to Ontario Culture Days programs. This person will also play an integral role in increasing the impact of the 2022 Ontario Culture Days campaign within local communities by supporting artists, arts and culture groups, and organizations hosting Ontario Culture Days activities and celebrations at the community level. 

  • Alongside other colleagues, create, edit and implement program copy and supporting digital content for our website, newsletters, and social media.
  • Assist in the production of program pages, such as ON Culture Guides and Festival Hubs, including following a production schedule, sourcing photos, writing and editing copy, building, testing, and optimizing pages on web CMS, and proactively updating pages as required.
  • Assist in planning, writing, editing and posting program content on organic and boosted social media that is appropriate to each platform. 
  • Coordinate with program partners and participants to execute social media collaborations and promotions.
  • Assist in planning, writing, editing, building and deploying program-specific targeted email communications.
  • Supporting PR in media outreach, as required.
  • Maintain a relationship with festival organizers throughout Ontario, providing direction, resources, and troubleshooting for the upcoming Ontario Culture Days Festival.
  • Coordination of the production and distribution of marketing collateral to Ontario feature sites and events.
  • Identifying and resolving issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Collaborating with all Ontario Culture Days staff in a positive and proactive manner.
  • General Administration as required.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years post secondary education in a related field of study
  • Experience working in a similar role, related to the arts, culture and heritage sector; tourism experience is an asset
  • Minimum 2 years writing and editing experience, writing samples will be required
  • Possess a solid understanding of effective grassroots and digital marketing techniques
  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills
  • A solid understanding of Wordpress, CreativeSuite, MailChimp and Buffer
  • Due to funding requirements, This Student Work Placement Position requires that all applicants must be a student registered and attending full or part time post secondary, and returning to school in the fall.
